I have been a Canon shooter for the past 10 years and I have officially made the jump to Nikon. After spending the past two years styling my images and trying to match Nikons Coloring and file capabilities while being completely Nikon obsessed I couldn't resist any longer. While I still love Canon for so many reasons I am excited with my new love affair with Nikon.
If you can't beat em join em...
I decided to make the switch four days before my first wedding of the year in La Paz, Mexico. I received my shipment of new gear on Wednesday, then flew to Mexico on Thursday morning with no experience shooting with Nikon. Kind of crazy, but I was up for the challenge. It was an interesting couple of days leading up to the wedding shooting with the Nikon D810 as much as possible to try and get used to the controls as they are completely different than the Canon 5D Mark iii. I was shooting and dumping cards on the laptop to figure out how to manipulate files and what they were truly capable of. I shot at sunrise directly into the sun, in low light, direct sunlight, under exposed, over exposed, played a lot with camera settings but didn't get to crazy with control customization or anything like that. I needed to understand the camera functionality and how the files worked. I was happy I had a couple days in paradise to really play around with this camera. It's not everyday you buy a new camera, have a picture perfect playground, and a bunch of awesome people having fun to photograph.
With all the excitement of getting used to the Nikon, it came time to photograph the wedding of Sean and Radia Hunter. Katie and I felt so lucky to have been brought way off the grid to Gran Sueno, The Bay of Dreams, in La Paz Mexico to document this weekend full of unforgettable memories. The activities were endless in our private bay. A mile point to point with paddle boards, kayaks, snorkeling gear, horses, volleyball, football, and the perfect place for open water swimming for us tri-geeks... The beauty that engulfed this location was unlike any experience I have ever had before. I have been to some beautiful places in the world, but this was a unique experience and I would highly recommend checking it out, and it's perfect for a destination wedding. Remote, private, beautiful scenery, full of adventure, awesome staff, and is the perfect setting for an intimate experience among families and friends.
